The Directory lists alphabetically all the kinds of trees included in the book, identifying mature and notable specimens of each and giving the sizes of the champions, wild or cultivated. The Gazetteer specifies the locations of the champions, listing them alphabetically by country, county and site and provides details on how to find them.
Champion Trees of Britain and Ireland, which has 192 pages and 84 colour photographs, has been compiled and edited by Dr Owen Johnson, the assistant Registrar of The Tree Register. His other books include The Sussex Tree Book and The Collins Tree Guide (to be published in 2004). The Tree Register is a registered charity.
